Not usually an easy place to come to get a victory for Milanda but this was as comfortable a victory as they've ever had here. Apart from a shakey 5 mkins or so when Renfrew pulled a goal back Milanda were in complete control of this game.
Milanda were in front as early as the 2nd minute and a cracking goal it was too. A free kick a few yards inside the Renfrew half on the right hand touchline was knocked towards the edge of the penalty box where Early sent a header into the box. Evans could only knock his header out to McGowan on the left. he looked up and saw Preston arriving in the box and his cross was met with a perfectly controlled cusion volley from Preston into the top corner.
This settled Milanda down and they played some great attacking football and Renfrew were unable to get into the game and they found themselves two down from another superb goal. A long throw from Griffin was cleared to the edge of the Renfrew box but a sweet Reid volley returned it with interest and the keeper was helpless once again.
On 30 mins it should have been 3. An identical build up to the first goal but both Evans and Coyle went for McGowan's cross and the ball came back off the post. Just before Ht Coyle is set free but the keeper is out quickly to deflect his effort for a corner. Then Evans has the final chance of the half when a cross by Griffin picks him out in the box but his first touch puts the ball the wrong side of the post.
The second half is 2 mins old when a quick Griffin throw sends Evans away on a mazy run and he avoids a couple of despairing tackles before cutting back to Coyle on the 6 yard line but he doesn't fully connect and his effort rolls wide.
This miss seemed to spur Renfrew on and for the first time in the match they put Milanda under real pressure and are rewarded with an easy goal after poor defending sees a huge gap open through the centre of the Milanda defence. The goal rattles Milanda for 5 mins but they settle again and restore their 2 goal advantage when a corner from Griffin is headed home by McGowan. Ten mins later and it's all over. Another corner from Griffin causes confusion in the Renfrew 6 yard box and a few boots try to push the ball home but the final touch is McGowans who gets his 2nd of the match. All that is left is for Fawns to pull off the save of the day when turning a net bound shot away for a corner.
An excellent result in what is always a hard fixture for Milanda and good preparation for the upcoming cup final.
MOTM: A good team performance but only one man in the frame this week. After 2 goals, one assist and a confident performance at the heart of the Milanda defence this week's MOTM goes to Jim McGowan. |
