AC Milanda 0 Red Star Ballieston 3 (HT 0-1)

Team - C.Preston, Binnie(Wilkie), O'Neill, S.Preston,Wilson, Reid, Evans, Early, Griffin Coyle(Williamson), Johnstone.

A strong wind meant there was little football played and the ball spent a lot of time in the air or out of the park. The team that adapted best was going to be the winner and unfortunately for Milanda it wasn't them. Milanda did have an early chance when Reid has some space on the edge of the box but his first time shot was well over the bar.

Chris Preston, making his first appearance in goals for over two years, had to be sharp to push a lob over the bar as the wind threatened to take it over his head. Preston could do nothing about the opening goal on 11 mins. A simple break down the right caught Milanda exposed and a cross into the box was easily dispatched into the net.

Milanda did try to respond and Coyle was put through by Griffin but his first touch let him down and the keeper had time to push the ball away. A few mins later Jim Binnie had to off injured and was replced by John Wilkie. The rest of the first half was mostly played out in the air and midfield as neither side could really get to grips with the wind. Preston did have time to pull off an outstanding point blank save though to keep Milanda in touch

Milanda had the wind behind them in the 2nd half but found themselves 2 goals down after only 2 minutes of the restart when a quick break was finsished off from the left hadn edge of the box. Milanda followed this with a double chance of their own when Reid had a chance on the edge of the box but the keeper blocked well and did the same to Early's follow up attempt. Johnstone then had a shot kicked off the line as Milanda's luck deserted them.

Red Star delivered the killer third goal when Preston failed to hold a shot and despite it being cleared to the edge of the box the resultant shot managed to find a pathway to the net. Milanda's last effort on goal was a long ball into the box that Evens just failed to get a toe to.

Milanda can have few complaints. They didn't take the few chances they were given while Red star did.

MOTM: Much huffing and puffing in difficult conditions and no real stand outs. Evans worked his socks off and was unlucky not to core and gets this week's award.
