Been a long time coming but Milanda finally got to kick a ball in anger in 2008. All things considered the Stepford pitch was in almost perfect condition for the league encounter.
Renfrew town have managed to play one game already this year and that possibly gave them the early edge as Milanda struggled to shake off the cobwebs. Renfrew put Milanda under pressure but the defence held firm and when it was breached Fawns showed a safe pair of hands. Milanda looked to have weathered the early pressure and were beginning to show signs of life when they fell behind to freak goal. A shot from the edge of the box spun off O'Neill and gave Fawns no chance as everyone stood watching as it curled its way into the back of the net.
It did finally kick start Milanda out of their slumber and they were level soon after when a Coyle run down the right took him to the byeline and his cutback reached Evans on the edge of the box and he finished off the move with a great strike into the top corner from 18 yards.
The game then hit a dull spot where both teams cancelled each other out and created very little in the way of real chances until Johnstone found himself one on one with the keeper as he tracked in from the left after a neat slip by Evans put him in. With the keeper closing down his angle he could have looked for a player inside but decided to go on his own and the keeper saved and it was cleared to safety.
Looked as if it was going to be all square at half time until Coyle intervened. A free kick was launched into the box and was knocked out to the edge of the box where Coyle hit a perfecyly controlled volley into the top right hand corner. Another peach to go along with Evans earlier effort and it saw Milanda lead at half time.
The 2nd half was a fairly evenly contested affair with little end product. Milanda forced a few corners that didn't come to anything and Evans saw a header hit the top of the bar. At the other end Renfrew made strong claims for a penalty when their winger went down under a challenge in the box but the ref waved it away. Milanda made a number of substituitions with Williamson making his first appearance since being injured in September replacing Preston, Scott coming on for McColgan and Grant getting a run out for Johnstone.
Given the length of time since the team has played and with Renfrew always giving us a hard game Milanda can be pleased with a result. that keeps them in the top 4.
MOTM - Good performances all over the pitch. Evans up front scored a great goal and was tireless in his running, Addison got stuck in in the middle of the park before getting stuck in at centre half, Fawns again showed a safe pair of hands when required but after making one and scoring one i suppose we better give it to Coyle. Started where he finished off last year and hopefully he can keep his form over the coming months. I also don't think he moaned at anyone.
