Match Report Sat May 16th 2009
After a great run of results Milanda sudden;y look as if the end of the season can't come quick enough. A lot of effort has been put into the last few months and it looks y=to have taken its toll as Milanda have just losed their edge and sharpness. Today's game was an uphill struggle from the off as Milanda found themsleves 2 down after 4 mins and never really looked like getting back into the game. Coyle did have a chance between the 2 goals to mark his return to the starting line up but his effort was touched away for a corner. Milanda did have their chances in the first half with Preston just inches away from a Grehan free kick, Mccolgan got an effort on target and Crawford couldn't keepthe ball down when a half chance presented itself after a corner. Vale had their chances to increase their lead with a free header and swift counter attack thatt ended with the ball on the wrong side of the post. Milanda lost Preston halfway through the half when he landed awkwardly after challening for a header and had to come off. It wasn't his morning as he'd taken a sore one in the back of the head earlier. Johnstone was then denied a good penalty claim when the defender looked to have fouled him in the box but theref wasn't interested. Milanda did start the 2nd half much better and Johnstone had a stinging shot knocked away for a corner. Then a few mins later Crawford watched his header cleared off the line but the game was all but over when Vale made it 3 on 55 mins. Milanda let the heads go down a bit at this point and it was no surprise when no 4 arrived. Milanda did finally get a consoltion when Coyle finally shook free of his marker and drilled a right foot shot passed the keeper to give Milanda a little hope. The crowd were then witnesses to the miss of the season. The Milanda backline got in a real mess and fawns came out to collectand missed the ball leaving an open goal for the vale forward but he somehow managed to screw the ball past the right hand post with an empty net right in front of him. It wasn't to make any real difference and Vale made it 5 with a couple of mins left. Was just one of those morning. Losing the two early goals sucked the energy out of the team and it was just too much of a mountain to climb. MOTM: Too many players just never got going but Grehgan in the Milanda midfield kept pushing forward and delivered some great crosses and gets the dubious honour of MOTM award in a 5-1 defeat.
