Match Report Sat Nov 22nd 2008
MILANDA played this match in their blue and red outfit but red and white with fluffy beards would have been more appropriate because all Kilpatrick Thistle’s Christmases came at once in a pre-festive giveaway that had to be seen to be believed. The visitors were undeniably the better team but let’s just say they did not have to work too hard for their goals. A bright start to the second period offered hope they might get back into the match as Mark Walker headed just over the bar and one or two other attempts just missed the target. To their credit, the players never stopped trying and pulled one back when Thomas Addison’s free-kick was headed back across goal by Early for McColgan to stoop and nod home from close range. Kilpatrick duly made it 7-1 but the final two goals of the day came from the home team. Substitute Martin Bradburn rose well to head home a pinpoint cross from Johnstone and Johnstone himself fired in Milanda’s third at the near post from a corner by one of the other substitutes, Brian Traynor. All in all a pretty horrible morning.Perhaps Milanda were unnerved when they saw Derek Forbes, a 50-goal striker last season, back in the Kilpatrick line-up. If so, they should have realised this is no one-man team – he didn’t score any of their seven goals.
