Milanda recorded their biggest ever win over opponents who normally prove tough to beat. An early goal put the home team in the driving seat and they never looked like relinquishing control of the game. Islay, who appear to have lost some of their better players of late, were behind after just six minutes. Gerry Evans broke on the right and sent over a low cross that Martin Coyle was able to control and fire past the keeper. Thomas Addison hit the keeper’s right-hand post with a shot and the Islay No.1 made a brave block at the feet of Evans as Milanda continued to look the more threatening team. Goal No.2 arrived after 31 minutes. A Paul Murray corner was won in the air by Ross Early and his knock-on was stabbed home at the back post by the alert Kevin Williamson. Five minutes into the second half, the result was put beyond all doubt by another Murray penalty after the keeper had needlessly bundled down Williamson in the box. MOTM: Some excellent performances right through the team. The defence was tight, the midfield worked hard, particularly Addison, and up front Evans grafted as he always does and Williamson showed glimpses of the old magic.
