Milanda eased themselves into the Vince McGlinchey Trophy Semi finals with a hard fought victory over a determined Ferguslie. The 5-1 scoreline may imply it was an easy victory but it was anything but. Milanda started the brightest without really testing the Ferguslie keeper. Crawford had a dipping volley from 25 yardsthat just didn't come down in time. Johnstone had time and space on the edge of the box benefiting from a defender's indecision but could only pull his shot wide. Like last week though Milanda fell behind and it was poor defending to blame. A poorly defended corner was flicked on at the front post and then headed back across goal leaving an easy header from 6 yards to give Ferguslie the lead. Milanda pressed for an equaliser and Murray' had a free kick well saved before a succession of throw ins provided Coyle with a great chance to equalise but he somehow managed to head over from 6 yards. O'Neill (playing his 2nd game since May) then looked to have scored the equaliser when his header looked to have hit the net but was cleared off the line and the ref waved play on. Milanda claimed a goal but it wasn't to be. It only delayed the goal by a few seconds as the resultant corner saw Crawford head home Murray's cross to give Milanda a deserved equaliser. Milanda still had time to reach the interval in front but first Coyle was denied by the keeper and Evans follow up was blocked by a defender. So Milanda finished the half level. Milanda started the 2nd the way they finished the first and kept the pressure on Ferguslie. Evans had a header saved on the line before a quick passing move between him and Coyle left Early in space on the angle of the box but his shot failed to make the keeper work too hard. The breakthrough finally did arrive after a long throw from murray was headed against the bar by Crawford but it fell perfectly for Coyle to volley home is 5th goal in 3 games. Thought I'd add that in as it might be one of the quiz questions next week. Then disaster struck for Ferguslie. A good run by Evans lets Johnstone in but his shot is saved. The keeper then decides to throw the ball out but the defender is quickly closed down by Coyle and the defender knocks it back to his already under pressure keeper and he makes a mess of his kick leaving Johnstone with the easiest goal he'll ever score. It was game over at this point and Milanda began to turn on the style with a move between Evans and Early leaving Murray with a chance to score with his right foot which he duly did The scoring wasn't over and with 3 mins left Crawford got his 2nd volleying home from close range with his knee and then proceeded to do a lap of honour. Final score was a bit harsh on Fergiuslie who competed well up until the 3rd goal. Milanda again a little slow into their stride but more than made up for it with an excellent 2nd half display MOTM - Like last week a number of strong contenders for this week's MOTM. Wilkie had a solid game, Coyle again was dangerous and Early was his usual solid self and Evans upfront again worked tirelessly but this week's award goes to two goal hero Crawford who since deciding not to wear any underwear has been a different player.
