A case of two points dropped this week after Andrew Watt, in a re-run of last season's game score with almost the last kick of the game. Milanda only have themselves to blame for not killing the game off. Still on the positive side it was a much improved performance from last week. Milanda took the first ten minutes to get over their hangover from last week and again seemed incapable of stringing any passes or moves together and it was no surprise when they went behind to an early Watt goal after a loose ball in a crowded box found it's way into the net. It was the wake up call Milanda needed and they started to play a bit of football as their passing game returned. Unfortunately moves were breaking down as Andrew Watt's offiside tactics caught out Milanda's strikers time and again. Although Evans did finally get an offiside call in his favour but couldn't get a strong enough shot on target and a few moments later Johnstone found himself in a similar position but again couldn't find a finish. Milanda's pressure did finally pay off when a perfectly weighted pass by Coyle eluded two desperate lunges from Watt defenders before putting Scott free on the left. Scott took one look up and delivered an inch perfect cross into Williamson's path and he had the easiest of tasks knocking the ball under the keeper from 6 yards. A few moments later Williamson collected his second to put Milanda in the lead. A long throw was aimed at the front post and a Watt defender got there first but his header only succeeded in knocking the ball back across his 6 yard box and Williamson lurking at the back post sent a header into the top corner to put Milanda in front. After last weeks frustrations at throw ins it was good to get a slice of luck for a change. The rest of the half was mostly a battle in midfield with both defences clearing up anything that came their way. A half of few chances finished with Milanda still in front. Only a few minutes ino the 2nd half and Andrew Watt were level. A diagonal through ball from midfield caught out the Milanda defence and a grateful Andrew Watt forward accepted the pass and finished well from a slight angle to make the game level. A few minutes later Crawford was introduced to the game in place of Grant and the substituiton had an immediate impact. Milanda won a shy halfway into the Watt half and Evans launched a long throw in to the box which Williamson reached first and his knock on to the back post was headed into the net by Crawford, his first touch since coming on. Milanda tried to finish the game off and Evans had a fantastic run that took him past most of the Watt defence and along the touch line before the ball hit Johnstone on the arm. McMillan then made his second change with Early coming on for Williamson. The game headed towards its conclusion and although Milanda couldn't get the killer fourth goal Andrew Watt were creating very little to worry the Milanda defence. Johnstone and Evans were doing some fine work as they held onto the ball and tracked back to help out the midfield and defence. Duncan replaced Evans to give Milanda some fresh legs and it looked as if the three points were safe but the last few mins seemed to take forever and a foul by Scott on the halfway line gave Andrew Watt one last chance to put pressure on the Milanda defence. A long high ball is usually meat and drink to the Milanda defence but for some reason this one never got cleared and it spun in to the box finding a Watt player in the clear and he thumped it into the top left corner. It was particularly hard on Fawns who had one of his easiest afternoons but found himsllf having to pick the ball out of the net 3 times. The final whistle sounded moments later and Milanda had thrown away two points. It was a hard one to take for Milanda and in many ways felt worse than last week when we were completely outplayed but this week 3 points should have been in the bag but as the old cliche goes the game lasts for 90 mins (or 95 in our case). Man of the match – Was a better overall performance than last week without any real standout displays. The boss suggested Martin Johnstone for his effort and willingness to be available for his team matesso he is this week's MOTM |
