A game of chances missed and chances taken. Unfortunately for Milanda they didn't take theirs. Milanda took the game to Invac from the first whistle and a fine run by Coyle got him to the byeline and Fawns just failed to convert his cross at the front post. Despite this encouraging start Milanda were almost immediately hit with a sucker punch when on Invac's first attack they went behind. A corner was knocked into the box and Preston's tried to attack the cross but his header only succeeded in knocking it back to an Invac player at the backpost who had an eternity to knock it past Walker with the Milanda defence static. A poor goal to lose so early in the game. Milanda were unlucky not to be back on level terms a few minutes later when another great run from Coyle saw his cross knocked back into the path of Reid but his first time shot crashed back off the crossbar and bounced to safety. This spurred Milanda on and Early was next to find himself in a goalscoring position. With the Invac defence claiming offside he collected the ball just outside the penalty box and advanced into the box unfortunately his shot/cross went wide of the left hand post. The equaliser did finally arrive when Fawns calmly drilled a cut back into the corner of the net. Although Milanda were looking strong at this point Invac were causing the Milanda defence problems and should have regained the lead when a neat pass into the box saw the Invac forward make himself a bit of space but his wild shot over the bar saw the danger pass. At the other end the crossbar once again denied Milanda. Coyle broke in from the left and from the edge of the box hit a screamer that the Invac keeper knew little about until he saw it coming back off the bar. There was no more scoring and Milanda would felt a little unlucky only be level at Ht. The second half proved to be a bit of a nightmare for Milanda. Invac took the lead when their centre half was allowed a free header at a corner and he placed his header into the right hand corner. Worse was to follow when Invac increased their lead to two. A free kick was conceded on the edge of the box and a simple shot round the wall left Walker standing still. Milanda tried hard to get back into the game but found the Invac defence and goal keeper in good form and despite firing in free kick and corners never put Invac under any great pressure. While pushing forward the Milanda defence were susceptible to the counter attack and on one of these attacks Invac got goal number four. There was a hint of offside about the goal but the finish was clinical. As the game entered the last 10 mins Williamson replaced Grant as Milanda went to three up front in a final attempt to salvage something from the game. A brief glimmer of hope arrived when Williamson managed to re-direct a Coyle cut back into the net but the comeback was shortlived as Invac scored goal number five soon after. A strange display from Milanda. Controlled the game for long spells in the first half lost a sloppy goal but recovered well and should have been in front by HT. Never got going 2nd half and the quick 1-2 from Invac knocked the stuffing out of the team. Will need to do better next week against league leaders Club Athletic. Man of the match: Not many contenders this week but given his unselfish running that led to two goals and with a bit of luck would have had one himself if his shot had been 2 inches lower this week's award goes to Coyle. |
