Milanda Complete Their Great Escape
Milanda live to fight another day in Divison A after a dramtic Saturday morning. Milanda did their part by demolishing Garnethill 5-1 but had to wait to hear the final score between Glasgow Athletic and Columba and hope Columba failed to win. The news when it arrived was good news as Columba had lost 2-1 despite leading 1-0 with 15 mins to go. So Milanda survive at Columba's expense and all credit has to go to the Milanda team who were unbeaten in their last 4 games, winning the last 3. A fantastic effort.
Full match report - Apologies for the delay. I thought I'd posted it up but techincal gremlins meant it hadn't been posted.
Congratulations on Milanda's survival also arrived from former Milanda player Martin Duncan.
Day/Night Out June 19th

End of an Era - Scott Grant's Turn to Hang up the Boots
Whatever Saturday's outcome Milanda old boy Scott Grant will pull on his £5 Woolworth's boots for the last time. Scott's first game for Milanda was so far back in time that the early editions of the Milanda Mercury had to be brought up from the vaults to try and figure out what decade it was. We're pretty sure it ws the 80s and maybe the 1988-89 season. Details are a bit vague but there is some pictorial evidence. Brian Dunn may want to look away now. The webmaster already has

Although Scott was brought into the squad to chauffeur then Milanda striker now turned webmaster he did get out the car long enough to secure the Player of the Year in the 1992-93 season and got his mug on the front of the Milanda Mercury as you can see below.

It was all downhill for Scott from that moment on and considering that was 17 years ago it must have been a very big hill. In an attempt to arrest this decline Scott purchased football nets for the team on the understanding he was the first name on the team-sheet. He got his wish and the number 15 became synonomous with Scott. So much so there has been an internet campaign to get the number retired in his honour, this was just after the campaign to get Scott retired.
Time is a footballer's worst enemy and it also affected Scott. Injury and illness threatened to end his time at Milanda but Scott soldiered on and he always gave his all for the Milanda cause. In recent times he scored a memorable free kick against Red Star Ballieston to give us our only ever win against them. We'll set aside the fact it was a friendly but he'll happily talk you through it if you ask nicely. His last competitive goal was against Club Sporting back in April of 2007 when he sent he keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. Deadballs were a Grant speciality and he could usually be relied upon for a good delivery into the box at free kicks and unlike most of his team-mates could hit a bye kick into the opponents half. In his day Scott formed a formidable partnership with a number of defensive partners including Brian Dunn, Scott Preston, Mark Anderson, Davie Crawford and for 15 mins last season he formed a 93 year old centre half pairing with the webmaster and we only lost one goal. We know Scott will miss playing (although he should be getting used to it) but intends to come along each Saturday to pass on his knowledge to Adda both about football and women. Something that Adda desperatley needs help with along with many other things.
So to Scott 'Sclaffer' Grant. Make sure you enjoy Saturday, enjoy retirement and hopefully Milanda can get a result for you.
